Speedway

  • The NASCAR season opens this Sunday with the 62nd annual Daytona 500. The race is big business for the local economy. There’s an extra buzz around the speedway this year with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump in attendance.
  • The Daytona Speedway will flip the switch for the first time Tuesday night on the new sign for the speedway’s entrance. You could say it’s literally another sign that the speedway’s massive renovation is almost done.
  • International Speedway Corp. has embarked on a $600 million dollar-plus tune up of its 55 year old Daytona race track and its surrounding area. The goal is to use this upgrade as a possible prototype for similar projects at its 12 other race tracks. The work includes a $400 million dollar modernization of the raceway and the planned One Daytona project, which will provide entertainment, restaurants, a hotel and more. The two projects will create 4,000 permanent jobs.
