desegregation

  • It’s been more than sixty years since the United States Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling to desegregate schools. That decision heightened public tension across the country, which played out prominently in Arkansas where, in 1957, nine black teenagers were escorted by federal troops to attend the once white-only high school, Little Rock Central High School. The students came to be known as the Little Rock Nine. One of the surviving members, Minniejean Brown Trickey says today’s political climate looks a lot like the one in which she grew up.
