UCF Economist Urges Investment In Infrastructure And Education


Florida’s economy is finally hitting its stride, according to the latest economic forecast from the University of Central Florida. Sean Snaith, who directs UCF’s Institute for Economic Competitiveness, says the state can expect strong job growth over the next 3 years in construction, trade, transportation and utilities. And he has this advice for whoever wins the Gubernatorial election on Tuesday: invest in infrastructure and education.

UCF Hotel and FedEx Distribution Center


It’s looking like the University of Central Florida will get a boutique hotel and conference center sometime in the next couple of years. UCF expects to negotiate a contract for a boutique hotel with KUD International LLC, pending a protest filed against the award by a competitor. The $24.2 million dollar, six-story hotel will have 100 to 130 rooms and will be built on 4.4 acres with 15,000 square feet of conference space. Hotel amenities would include a restaurant, cocktail lounge, fitness center, pool and a water feature.

Blake Bortles Impresses in Jaguars Preseason


Former UCF Quarterback Blake Bortles saw his second NFL preseason game this week with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite a 20 – 19 loss to the Chicago Bears, third-overall pick Blake Bortles impressed on Thursday night. The rookie QB took over for veteran Chad Henne in the second-half. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers. Bortles performance followed another strong showing in week one against Tampa. The Jaguars staff announced he will be on the bench during the regular season with Henne as starting quarterback. In his final season with UCF Bortles helped propel the Knights to a Fiesta Bowl win.
