Excess Property Tax Revenue Expands Orange County Budget


Orange County commissioners will have an extra $21.7 million to spend this fiscal year thanks to excess revenue, $3.2 million more than last year. Tax Collector Scott Randolph attributes the cash hike to higher property values during the 2015-2016 fiscal year. He is asking commissioners to put some of the money toward getting air conditioning at the county’s animal shelter.

Homeless Families To Find Homes Quicker Under New Orange County Service


For some homeless families in Orange County, the transition from the streets into houses will be quicker than before. Orange County Commissioners approved a $1.5 million contract this afternoon for a rapid rehousing service. According to a recent report, rapid rehousing, or housing-first initiatives, are a more effective way to curb central Florida’s chronic homelessness problem among families.
