Orlando Climbs In Parks Ranking


Access to public parks in Orlando is improving according to the Trust for Public Land, which ranks park systems in the 100 largest US cities. The Trust for Public Land’s ParkScore Index places Orlando’s park system 46th, 7 places higher than last year.

Orlando Residents Call for Removal of Confederate Statue at Lake Eola


A group of Orlando residents will urge city commissioners Monday afternoon to remove the 100-year-old statue of a confederate soldier in Lake Eola Park. They say it is a symbol of decades of white supremacy and discrimination against people of color. They insist that it be removed before June 12th when city officials will hold a ceremony at the public park for Orlando United Day.

Charity Events and ways to Treat Yourself


If you care about others…. Folks will be putting together lunches including sandwiches, bananas, water, cookies and chips for the homeless then split up into two groups at Lake Eola and near the Coalition for the Homeless on Central to pass them out. The goal is pass out up to 300 lunches. Children are encouraged to join in to decorate the lunch bags and pass them out. This wonderful event takes place Sunday at 10 at Julie’s house at 515 West Harvard Street in College Park. Technically it’s sold out but just show up anyways and help package 70,000 healthy meals for hungry people all around the U.S. for the children’s charity Feeding Children Everywhere.
