Spotlight: Florida Prize, Drunk Spelling Bee and Musical at Mad Cow Theatre


10 of the most progressive and exciting artists working in the State today have been invited to show their works in the Orlando Museum of Art during the 5th Annual Orlando Museum of Art Florida Prize in Contemporary Art Exhibit. Meet all 10 artists and hear them speak about their works during a panel discussion at the museum Saturday 11am at Orlando Museum of Art. The United States Pole Sports Federation is hosting a 2 hour children’s pole workshop. Your kids can learn some new moves including dynamic drops. Canine Memorial, OMART And Chinese Brush Painting


There’s a collective memorial called the 4th annual Canine memorial at Lake Baldwin at which former pet owners release and candle lantern into the water in memory of a lost pet. Its purpose is to provide everyone with the opportunity to honor and bid farewell to their treasured companions. The memorial takes place Saturday 7 to 9:30 in the evening at 4990 New Broad Street in Baldwin Park and is free and open to the public. Saturday evening will be a fun party with food and music dedicated to the three Bs at the Bacon Bourbon and Blues Festival 5 to 11 at Center Lake Park. The City of Winter Park might loathe buskers performing on their sidewalks but the City of Eustis welcomes talent from all over the United States with open arms Saturday during the Eustis Busker Festival. Buskers are street performers with various talents. The free, family oriented, festival will take place in Downtown Eustis at “busk stops” from 10 to 5. Florida Prize in Contemporary Art – OMART


At a time when so much of the news is dismal, and we’re all inundated with it thanks to ever-present social media, the consolations of art are more important than ever. But what to do when our artists refuse to soothe us with pretty pictures? This week, Orlando Museum of Art opens the second iteration of their Florida Prize in Contemporary Art. As it did last year, the invitational exhibition gathers 10 contemporary Florida artists to show their work; one will win a five-figure cash prize.
