Lockheed Martin Grant For STEM Programs

Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed Martin, which has a large local presence, will give a $2 million multi-year grant to support the expansion of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, programs for Orange County Public Schools. It’s a move Lockheed Martin hopes will build interest in technology careers. The firm wants to hire 100,000 engineers in the next 15 years, and according to the U.S. Department of Commerce, STEM jobs are expected to grow 17 percent by 2018. Based on that, 1.2 million STEM job won’t be filled due to a lack of skilled workers.
