THREE COMMUNITY LEADERS JOIN 90.7 WMFE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

New appointees are Kathy Llamas, Donna Mackenzie and Hector L. Torres; 2016 chair and vice chair are Peter C. Barr, Jr., and Robert B. White, Jr.

ORLANDO — The 90.7 WMFE Board of Trustees has welcomed three new members: Kathy Llamas, founder and CEO of KL Communications & Marketing Network; Donna Mackenzie, executive director of FireSpring Fund, Canvs, Starter Studio; and Hector L. Torres, business development director/advertising of The Group Advertising.

“I look forward to the contribution that Donna, Hector and Kathy will bring to our board with their areas of expertise, ties to the Central Florida community and their diversity of perspectives,” said LaFontaine E. Oliver, president and general manager of 90.7 WMFE.

Kathy Llamas founded and heads KL Communications & Marketing Network, a media and marketing company focused on digital publishing, global outsourcing, publicity and the creation of new revenue streams for businesses. Kathy is also a partner in a travel company and active in the real estate industry.

"It is truly an honor to join the distinguished and respected group of professionals who comprise the WMFE Board of Trustees,” Llamas said. “As the listening public’s demands for more relevant content increases, the role of public radio has proven to be an integral component of the ever-evolving media arena. I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of a proactive effort to ensure that WMFE continues to set the pace for public radio in Central Florida and beyond."

Donna Mackenzie is the executive director of FireSpring Fund, a not-for-profit evergreen seed fund investing in early stage technology companies.  She is also the executive director of the co-working space Canvs and the tech accelerator Starter Studio.

“As a long-term supporter of WMFE, I am excited to take an even more active role in supporting the station,” Mackenzie said. “I am particularly enthusiastic about strengthening the connections between the emerging and growing tech community to WMFE. This creative, intelligent and thoughtful group are the listeners we need to embrace to broaden support of the station.”

Hector L. Torres is business development director/advertising of The Group Advertising, a national multicultural advertising and PR agency. Prior to joining The Group, Torres was the owner and partner of a Grammy Award-winning Latin music company, as well as a leader in new business development and marketing for hit radio stations in Central Florida.

"I am very excited to serve on the Board of Trustees of 90.7 WMFE. As a longtime listener and fan, I am grateful for the chance to help the station with its commitment to provide high-quality entertainment and information to Central Florida.”

Mackenzie and Torres were elected at the December 2015 Board of Trustees meeting. Llamas was elected at the February 2016 meeting. All were elected by unanimous decision.

“I am confident that these additions to the board will strengthen what is already a strong board of trustees, and continue to support our outstanding staff," said Peter C. Barr, Jr., 2016 Board Chair and president and CEO of &Barr.

Barr, who is the 31st Board chair, took the helm from Immediate Past Chair Julia L. Frey, shareholder/partner at Lowndes Drosdick Doster Kantor & Reed, PA. Robert B. White, Jr., president of White & Luczak, P.A., is the 2016 Vice Chair.
