90.7 WMFE LAUNCHES YOUNG FRIENDS GROUP

New initiative seeks to connect and engage young public radio listeners

young friends fb picORLANDO — Central Florida’s public radio station for NPR news and information, 90.7 WMFE, is in search of locals who like to have fun and love public radio to be founding members of a new group.

Young Friends of 90.7 WMFE is a new initiative that seeks to engage and connect with young (and young-at-heart) public radio listeners throughout the Central Florida community.

The group is part of NPR Generation Listen, a movement to connect the next generation of public radio listeners to their local stations.

“We are excited to expand our community engagement efforts to include this new group of radio-active listeners that are curious about our community and interested in sharing their love of public radio with others,” said LaFontaine E. Oliver, president and general manager of 90.7 WMFE.

WMFE looks forward to exchanging ideas and having smart conversations online, over the air and at events.

“What we are hoping to gain from our Young Friends initiative is a deeper understanding of trends and developments in our region, as well as a stouter pipeline of dedicated listener contributors,” Oliver said.

Survey: WMFE is still in the development stages of the group, and needs feedback from public radio listeners. This short survey includes questions about listening habits and the types of initiatives and activities folks would like to see included in the Young Friends’ programming.
