Voters in Florida’s 9th congressional district decide between Democratic incumbent Alan Grayson or Republican challenger Carol Platt. While most Central Florida congressional districts aren't close races this year, the 9th district may be a battle.
Political newcomer Carol Platt has quietly campaigned across a district that stretches from East Orlando to St. Cloud. That’s a stark contrast to the boisterous Alan Grayson – who’s running under the slogan ‘Congressman with Guts.’
The district has a Democratic registration advantage – about 70,000 thousand more than Republicans. But historically, turnout from Democrats in midterm elections is low.
This could tip the scales in Platt’s favor. According to internal polling from her campaign last month, she was down only by 5-points.
Grayson’s divorce has also made headlines this year. It’s something Platt hasn’t attacked, but could be on the minds of voters.
Platt is Association Executive of the Osceola County Association of REALTORS – this is her first run for public office. Grayson is hoping to win a second term in this seat. Previously, he was Representative for Florida’s 8th Congressional District.
