Florida Senator David Simmons has won re-election in District 10.

Simmons defeated Walter Osborne- No party affiliation. Simmons spent Tuesday night watching results come in with fellow Republicans at the Hilton Hotel in Altamonte.

“I’m excited, and relieved,” said Simmons of his win. With respect to a lot of the local races and the state legislative races and the congressional races- everything looks very good there, “he said.

Simmons said he’s also happy that amendment one- the water and land conservation amendment- won approval from voters.

“It will provide a dedicated funding source for the water resources legislation that the leadership of both the house and the senate believe that we’re going to pass this year, so I’m very happy that it’s happened,” said Simmons.

Amendment one dedicates a third of fees the state collects on real estate transactions to water resource and land conservation.

That’s estimated to be more than half a billion dollars in its first year.
