Vietnam Veterans Honored as Part of Memorial Day Events Across Central Florida

A ceremony honoring the men and women who served during the Vietnam War is one of several events taking place across central Florida this Memorial Day. VITAS Healthcare and Dignity Memorial are choosing to honor Vietnam veterans in particular. They say those men and women who served in the largely unpopular war did not receive adequate resources and support when they returned to the United States. Floridas Department of Veteran Affairs estimates nearly 500,000 Vietnam veterans are across the state, a large portion in central Florida alongside the Vietnamese who fought with them and later fled the island.

Spotlight: Cheddar’s

Ive been avoiding Cheddars, the Texas based chain, ever since they entered the Central Florida market a few years ago. There were plenty of smaller, locally owned restaurants to to visit. Then, in March, Darden Restaurants announced that it was buying Cheddars. And so I felt a certain duty to be familiar with the latest addition to the hometown megafeeders portfolio. So off I went to check a Cheddars. After just one visit, I have only one question: What the hell was Darden thinking? I left thinking that I had just had one of the most unpleasant meals of my entire professional career, which as of this month is 29 years, so I have a pretty good inventory to draw ...
