Homelessness Along Osceola County’s Tourism Corridor: A Perspective From US-192

Osceola County has one of the highest numbers of homeless families in the country, according to a recent report commissioned by county officials. And in an area dominated by the tourism industry, homelessness can present itself in unexpected ways. Many of these families are staying off the streets by squeezing into a room at one of the motels lining US-192, a busy tourist corridor. But now, most of the tourists that come to visit the theme parks nearby stay at the newer hotels on the parks property. Spotlight: Summer Nights at the Science Center

This Spotlight segment is for kids milking the end of summer break or for science-loving adults.  Summer Nights at the Orlando Science Center continues for two more weekends. On Fridays and Saturdays through August 16, Orlando Science Center visitors can enjoy movies, laser shows and stargazing. 90.7’s Amy Kiley stopped by one Summer Night ahead of her conversation with Brandan Lanman.  Hes the Science Centers senior director of visitor experience.  Though they talked in a WMFE studio, she mixed in sounds from her Summer Nights experience.
