Budding musicians from across Florida are taking part in a virtual festival on Facebook next week. They’re posting audio samples of their composing and song-writing skills to get feedback from professionals across the nation. Florida Virtual School, an internet-based public K-12 school headquartered in Orlando, is organizing the festival.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Umi, a sushi bar and Japanese restaurant on Park Avenue, even though it included some of the absolute worst mussels to ever have been placed in front of me. The menu features not only the expected sushi selections but also kitchen foods that include robata grilled meats and a couple of ramen soups.

Spotlight: The Actomatics Are Gearing Up To Rock Delandapalooza


The fourth annual DeLandapalooza Music & Art Festival is coming up Saturday, April 11th. At least 150 local and regional acts will perform on 27 stages throughout historic Downtown DeLand. Festival goers will hear a variety of music from rock, to jazz, to country, along with some hip hop and metal. Local music-scene fixture, The Actomatics, will be performing.

The Golden Knife bills itself as a chop house. Its menu is light on appetizers, unless you consider salads to be starter course material. My eyes were drawn to an octopus option, until I also saw that the price was $20, which was the same as some of the entrees.
