Stay up to date with the latest information from 90.7 WMFE & 89.5 WMFV
  • WMFE and WMFV in partnership with Report for America, have hired Lillian Hernández Caraballo to cover Housing and Homelessness in Central Florida. Housing and Homelessness are topics that touch every single person in this region and the goal of the non-profit, member-supported newsroom is to expand coverage of these issues, giving them the attention and thoughtfulness warranted to better understand this crisis and find solutions.
  • WMFE is suspending activity on its official Twitter accounts, following a similar move by NPR. Last week, Twitter mis-labeled NPR’s main account as “state-affiliated media,” a designation usually given to government-controlled outlets.
  • WMFE and WMFV, public media stations serving nine Central Florida counties, have created an innovative new Content Leadership Team in an effort to better serve audiences on all platforms and to make journalism a two-way street, in conversation with the Central Florida community.

  • WMFE FM/WMFV FM is expanding its coverage of Housing and Homelessness in Central Florida thanks to a partnership with Report for America, a national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms to report on undercovered issues and communities.
  • Central Florida public radio station 90.7 WMFE won three awards from the Florida chapter of the Society for Professional Journalism (SPJ) for its work in 2021. These awards honor the best work produced by journalists throughout the state. Stations compete against others who work in the same medium.
  • WMFE/WMFV, the NPR affiliate serving the Orlando area and nine counties across Central Florida, will launch a revamped version of its weekly arts, culture and entertainment segment “Spotlight” on Sept. 1, 2022. The segment, hosted by WMFE’s All Things Considered host Nicole Darden Creston, will air at 4:45 p.m. on Thursdays as well as a weekly podcast.
  • WMFE and WUCF invite the public to attend a free panel discussion on Wednesday, August 24, 7 p.m. about what’s ahead for deep space exploration as humans return to the moon. The panel of experts will also explore the goals of NASA’s next moon missions and how commercial players such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Boeing are contributing to exploration – and the challenges that still remain.
  • 90.7 WMFE won two first place awards from the Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) for its work in 2021. These national awards honor the best work produced by public media outlets across the United States. Stations compete against similar-sized newsrooms.
  • WMFE and WMFV, public media stations serving nine Central Florida counties, are pleased to announce the revamping of their long-running weekly economic segment, which has featured Orlando-based economic analyst Hank Fishkind for approximately three decades. The segment will continue to be part of Morning Edition and will be hosted by local Morning Edition anchor Talia Blake. Starting May 31, the segment will feature four rotating regular guests, plus occasional "wildcard" contributors.
  • WMFE is pleased to announce that a loyal listener from Orlando has been randomly selected as the winner of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek offered as a giveaway during the recent Spring fund drive.
  • WMFE’s journalists received four awards from the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists on Saturday, May 7, 2022. More than 40 radio and television stations submitted more than 550 entries in the contest, which featured content produced in 2021.
