WMFE wins two national awards from the Public Media Journalists Association

ORLANDO — Central Florida public radio station 90.7 WMFE won two first place awards from the Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) for its work in 2021. These national awards honor the best work produced by public media outlets across the United States. Stations compete against similar-sized newsrooms. WMFE earned its two first place awards in Division A (news staff of eight to 15).

Overall, judges reviewed over 1,500 entries.

In the category of Digital Writing, WMFE’s Amy Green won first place for her story exploring the die off of Manatees. Four Years Ago Manatees Were Declared No Longer Endangered. Now They Are Dying At A Record Pace.”

Former WMFE Assistant News Director Matthew Peddie won first place in the Interview category with a follow up to the Pulse nightclub mass shooting. A Pulse survivor and the officer who saved him catch up.”

In addition, a Florida Public Media collaboration that WMFE participated in won three first place awards. Wins for Class of COVID-19: An Education Crisis for Florida's Vulnerable Students included:

First place – Collaborative Effort

First place – Long Documentary

First place – Multimedia Presentation
