New Content Director, Host Lineup at Community Communications

COMMUNITY COMMUNICATIONS INTRODUCES

NEW CONTENT DIRECTOR, HOST LINEUP

MORNING EDITION GETS NEW HOST, VETERAN HOST MOVES TO AFTERNOONS

There are a couple of new faces at 90.7 WMFE and 89.5 WMFV, and a familiar one who has moved to a new part of the day.

Stephen Yasko joins the team as the director of content and audience development for Community Communications Inc., which operates 90.7 WMFE in metro Orlando and 89.5 WMFV in The Villages, Leesburg and the Golden Triangle. Talia Blake is the new host of NPR's Morning Edition, which airs at 6 a.m. weekdays on WMFE. And, former Morning Edition host Nicole Darden-Creston has officially taken over afternoon hosting duties for NPR's All Things Considered, which airs at 4 p.m. weekdays on WMFE.

"We are excited to welcome Stephen to our senior leadership team," President and General Manager LaFontaine Oliver said. "His public media experience is deep and wide-ranging and will serve WMFE and WMFV well in shaping the look, sound, and feel of our content on-air, on digital media, and in the community.

"WMFE has become a ripe recruitment source for other local and national public broadcasters, so it is always great when we can steal one back for the home team. We are fortunate to welcome Talia back to Central Florida to host Morning Edition. Talia is a rising star whose energy will help listeners start their day on just the right note.

"Nicole is a proven talent that WMFE listeners have come to regard as a trusted friend, keeping them informed throughout the week. We are excited that she will now anchor the afternoon drive on WMFE."

Stephen Yasko

Yasko has spent 20 plus years in public media, and is a transformational non-profit leader who embraces the reach of traditional media and the immediacy of digital techniques. He founded and grew Baltimore’s AAA Station, WTMD 89.7, into one of the leading NPR music stations; did programming marketing and operations for NPR and produced/marketed The Diane Rehm Show at WAMU when it first went national.

“Central Florida is one of the fastest growing regions in the country and WMFE has a team of talented journalists to chart the implications of adding population every year," Yasko said. "I was captivated by the possibilities the news team described and am honored to be leading them into the future.”

Talia Blake

Blake comes to WMFE after a brief stint as Morning Edition producer at The Public’s Radio in Rhode Island. She graduated with a double major in broadcast journalism and psychology from the University of Central Florida and was an intern for WMFE’s public affairs show, Intersection, while at UCF.

"It’s a great honor to serve the community that has taught me so much since my days at the University of Central Florida. Connecting with the Central Florida community is like reconnecting with family," Blake said.

Nicole Darden-Creston

Darden-Creston had been hosting ATC since August, when former host Crystal Chavez took a lead producer position at NPR in Washington, D.C. She is celebrating nine years at the station this year.

"Central Florida is my home," Darden-Creston said. "I’ve seen this region celebrate great victories. I’ve seen it mourn tragic losses, and in their aftermath, I’ve seen it stand together in compassion, strength, and unity. It’s my honor to serve this remarkable community and help us all stay connected to each other, sharing our stories and experiences."

WMFE is so grateful to fill-in host Shawn Burke, who took over Morning Edition for Darden-Creston in 2018. Burke will continue to cover host shifts as needed for both of NPR's newsmagazines on the station.
