Former Sen. Snowe calls for end to "hyper-partisan" Congress

Former Sen. Olympia Snowe says it's time to hold congressional members accountable for unproductive partisanship.

The former Maine senator was at the University of Central Florida Thursday to take part in a panel discussion addressing – as she calls it – hyper-partisanship in Washington.

"You understand there are differences in campaigns and there will be differences in Congress and expressing those differences. But the question is whether or not they can resolve those differences and to ultimately achieve the goal of solving problems for the people they were elected to represent."

Snowe served three terms in the Senate before announcing in 2012 she would not seek re-election because of partisanship and dysfunction in Congress.

She says this election season congressional members must be held responsible.
