Florida Realtors Talk About Homelessness

The trade association for Florida real estate agents is urging its members to do what they can to combat homelessness.

Florida Realtors is holding a summit on homelessness in Orlando today.

The summit features experts from state and local organizations including the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, and the Department of Children and Families.

Florida Realtors treasurer Maria Wells says realtors are keenly aware of the problems associated with homelessness- and the summit aims to show them ways they can help.

“Realtors are very involved in their communities, and when you take away the homelessness issue and try to get people in homes, they can get jobs and raise their families and there’s less crime, and less things that happen in a community that are more costly.”

Wells says Florida Realtors’ leadership team spent two months touring the state visiting experts on homelessness to try and raise awareness about the issue.

The association has also pushed for legislation to help provide housing for low-income and homeless Floridians.
