Floridians will vote Tuesday in two congressional districts ruled unconstitutional by a Tallahassee circuit judge.
The districts in North and Central Florida likely will face more litigation, but primary elections results are expected to stand.
Winter Garden Republican Dan Webster’s District 10 and Jacksonville Democrat Corrine Brown’s District 5 were ordered redrawn after Leon County Circuit Judge Terry Lewis ruled they favored Republicans.
Last week Judge Lewis affirmed the Legislature's newly drawn map but found there's no time to implement it for 2014.
Aubrey Jewett, a professor of political science at the University of Central Florida, says even if the state Supreme Court takes up the issue it's unlikely to order special elections in congressional races.
"Because these are federal elections, and they of course are a state court. And federal law is pretty clear about when congressional elections are supposed to take place."
Jewett says it's the first time in memory Floridians have voted in congressional districts a judge has deemed unconstitutional.
Plaintiffs say the new map is no improvement. They plan to appeal.
