Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says a U.S. Supreme Court ruling would resolve lower court rulings on gay marriage.

Bondi spoke Friday at a campaign event in Orlando on a federal judge's finding that the state's ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle ruled the state constitutional ban approved by voters in 2008 violates the 14th Amendment's guarantee of equal protection.

Bondi has appealed previous rulings striking down the ban in South Florida.

"You don't want rulings all around the country that are different and contrary to each other."

Bondi says she supports the ban because her job includes protecting the state constitution.

The Tallahassee judge's ruling applies statewide. But he issued a stay with his ruling, meaning it will remain on hold as appeals are pursued. No marriage licenses will be granted.
