Health care advocates say Hispanics make up the largest group of uninsured people in the country, and they’re calling on Hispanics to get covered under the Affordable Care Act.
A town hall meeting Thursday evening at the Englewood Neighborhood Center in Orlando is the first of three this month before open enrollment begins Nov. 15.
The meetings are hosted by a coalition of local and national advocacy groups. The aim is to teach community members how to enroll for insurance under the Affordable Care Act and what will be covered.
Leaders say it's important that people are informed about their options.
The other meetings are Monday at the Association of Poinciana Villages, a community center, and Thursday at the Beyond Institute and Career Center in Lake Buena Vista.
Hispanic Health Initiatives says the meetings also are aimed at pressuring state legislators to accept federal funding and expand health care for all Floridians.
