US Supreme Court Should Uphold Florida’s Judicial Campaign Restrictions

The US Supreme Court is considering a campaign finance case out of Florida after hearing arguments last week. The case was brought by Lanell Williams-Yulee, a former judicial candidate who claims Florida’s fundraising restrictions on those seeking a seat on the bench are unconstitutional.

Orlando Sentinel columnist and editorial writer Darryl Owens says the restrictions, which ban potential judges from personally asking for campaign cash, also help prevent the perception that justice is ‘for sale’ in Florida courtrooms.
