Spotlight: History, Theatre, Art Fest and Lunar New Year

An exhibit documenting both the rise of the Hitler Youth and the indoctrination of one boy, Paul Bayer, who was inducted at age 10 and by 17 was ordered to man an anti-aircraft position in Nuremberg which eventually ended in his death is the topic of The Short Life of Hitler Youth Paul B. The exhibit runs Saturday 8 to 3 at Valencia College Lake Nona Campus. Spotlight: Orlando Shakes, Tree Lightings and Pecha Kucha

The movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a film everyone loves, even though it’s in black and white. What is this, the eighties? Is Michael J. Fox going to jump out and say “Where we’re going we don’t need angles” Now the folks at Orlando Shakes are putting it on stage as a radio play (a.k.a.- they ain’t paying for sets and they only have to pay 5 actors to play dozens of characters) It’s a Wonderful Life is currently running with the final show falling on December 30. Orange County Sheriff Calls Fatal Shootings “Workplace Violence”

Orlando is still reeling after five people were killed when a gunman entered an awning factory and opened fire before killing himself. Officials say 45-year-old John Robert Neumann Jr. entered Fiamma, Inc., located in an industrial park off Forsyth & Hanging Moss Road, with a semiautomatic pistol and a hunting knife and shot four men and one woman.

Charity Events and ways to Treat Yourself

If you care about others…. Folks will be putting together lunches including sandwiches, bananas, water, cookies and chips for the homeless then split up into two groups at Lake Eola and near the Coalition for the Homeless on Central to pass them out. The goal is pass out up to 300 lunches. Children are encouraged to join in to decorate the lunch bags and pass them out. This wonderful event takes place Sunday at 10 at Julie’s house at 515 West Harvard Street in College Park. Technically it’s sold out but just show up anyways and help package 70,000 healthy meals for hungry people all around the U.S. for the children’s charity Feeding Children Everywhere.
