• Congressional Representatives from Central Florida sailed through the 2014 primary. District 7 incumbent John Mica faced three Republican challengers in the primary – Don Oelrich, Kelly Shirley and David Smith. Mica won the nomination with 72% of the vote. Alan Grayson, District 9 incumbent, won his Democratic primary against challenger Nick Ruiz with 74% of the vote. District 10 Republican Congressman Dan Webster and District 5 Democrat Corinne Brown were unopposed in their party’s primary on Tuesday. Read More »

Eight circuit court judgeships are up for grabs in Central Florida’s District 9 this primary election. • Tuesday is primary election day in Florida. In the Democratic gubernatorial primary, former Governor Charlie Crist is the heavy favorite against former state Senator Nan Rich. The other statewide Democratic primary will pick a challenger for Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi. She’s better funded than both House Minority Leader Perry Thurston and former secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families, George Sheldon. A Democratic race to watch is the District 12 state Senate match-up between incumbent Geraldine Thompson and former Senator Gary Siplin. It’s close, but Thompson has an edge in fundraising and party support. Florida is a closed primary state, but all voters have a say in nonpartisan judicial and municipal races.
