State Agencies Study Sea Level Rise Impact

Experts from a range of state agencies gathered Wednesday to share their research on sea level rise.

Parts of Florida could face sea level rise of up to five feet by the end of the century.

The threat is most acute in low-lying South Florida but extends statewide. In Central Florida rising seas could threaten the Kennedy Space Center.

A Department of Health report raises concerns about health problems associated with tainted water and damaged infrastructure.

The Panhandle is one of the regions most at risk because there's less access to public water and sewage disposal.

The Department of Environmental Protection is partnering with Florida's five water management districts to explore how sea level rise might endanger the water supply.

Other researchers are developing mapping programs capable of projecting sea level rise down to the street level.

Amy Green covered the environment for WMFE until 2023. Her work included the 2020 podcast DRAINED.
