Hank Fishkind September 7 - Gubernatorial Candidates on the Economy.
September 07 - During the rallies and picnics marking this week's Labor Day holiday, one topic was at the center of most conversations: Jobs. With the state's unemployment rate stalled at nearly 12 percent, both of the candidates for governor, Democrat Alex Sink and Republican Rick Scott claim to have plans that will jumpstart Florida's sagging economy and create jobs. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke with economic analyst Hank Fishkind about the platforms of the two candidates for governor. He says, so far, their economic ideas seem remarkably similar.

Hank Fishkind August 31 - Housing Slump Hits Florida Hard
August 31 - There has been more bad news for Florida's housing market in the past week. Sales of new and existing homes in the US and here in Florida were even lower than most analysts predicted. At the same time, the number of home foreclosures was on the rise. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke about the housing and foreclosure crisis with economic analyst Hank Fishkind. Dr. Fishkind says the trend is very troubling for Florida's economy and he says the dip in home sales is partly due to the expiration of the first-time home buyer's tax credit.

Hank Fishkind August 24 - Florida Jobless Numbers
August 24 - Voters in Florida and around the nation say the economy is their number one concern as they go to the polls. On this primary Election Day in Florida, we're taking a look at the state's new unemployment figures. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke with economic analyst Hank Fishkind, who says the state's unemployment picture is grim.

August 17, 2010 - The August 24th primary election is one week from today and Orange County voters will be choosing a new mayor. Rich Crotty is stepping down as county mayor because of term limits. One of the most pressing issues facing the next mayor will be the county's $77 million dollar budget shortfall. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke with economic analyst Hank Fishkind about some of the candidates' ideas for tackling the county's budget problems.

Hank Fishkind August 10 - Florida Could Benefit from Federal Aid Package to States
August 10, 2010 -- U.S. House members are rushing back to Washington today for a one-day special session to vote on a $26 billion plan to help state governments. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called members back from their summer recess after the Senate passed the emergency aid package last week. The money is intended to stave off thousands of job cuts for teachers, police officers, firefighters and other government workers. 90.7's Tom Parkinson asked economic analyst Hank Fishkind where the money will go and how much it will help Florida.

Hank Fishkind August 3 - Budget Deficit Crisis Brewing
August 3, 2010 - The state budget is tight this year, but it's nothing compared to what lawmakers are likely to face when they try to hash out the next spending plan. Billions of dollars in federal stimulus money will run out next year, and by some estimates, the state could be facing a six billion dollar deficit for fiscal year 2011. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke with economic analyst Hank Fishkind and asked him to explain just how much money six billion dollars is and what the state can do to dig out of a hole of that deep.

Hank Fishkind July 27 - Economic Positions of the Candidates for Governor.
July 27, 2010 - Florida will elect a new governor in November, and the primary election is less than a month away. Economic issues are at the top of voters' minds this year so 90.7's Tom Parkinson asked economic analyst Hank Fishkind to help sort out the budget-related proposals of the major candidates. The big contenders for the state's top job are Democrat Alex Sink, Florida's Chief Financial Officer; Republican Attorney General Bill McCollum and his primary opponent, former healthcare executive Rick Scott; and independent candidate Bud Chiles, the son of former Florida Governor Lawton Chiles. Dr. Fishkind says many of the candidates have similar ideas for the state's economy.

Hank Fishkind July 20 - Economic Impact of Gulf oil Spill
July 20,2010 - State lawmakers have returned to Tallahassee for a special session to discuss a permanent ban on oil drilling in Florida's coastal waters. There is also talk now of another special session later in the summer to talk about economic compensation for Floridians affected by the spill. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke with economic analyst Hank Fishkind about the financial implications of the oil spill itself and of a possible ban on coastal drilling.

Hank Fishkind July 13 Falling Tax Revenues Mean Municipal Layoffs
July 13 2010 - In the midst of this economic recession, county and city governments are facing drastic cuts in services and, in many cases, employee layoffs. A continued plunge in property tax revenues is largely to blame. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke with economic analyst Hank Fishkind about why property taxes are so important for local governments in Florida.

Hank Fishkind July 7 - The Economic Impact of Florida's Shrinking Population
July 7, 2010 - The US Census Bureau recently released new figures on Florida's changing population. They confirm the fact that, for the first time in at least a generation, the state is not gaining huge numbers of new residents. In fact, by some accounts Florida is losing people. 90.7's Tom Parkinson spoke with economic analyst Hank Fishkind about the changes. He thinks the state's growth rate may never return to its old levels and that could have major implications for Florida's economy.
