News Director, Intersection Host
Before WMFE Mark worked his way up the ranks to Assistant News Director at member station WFSU in Tallahassee. While in Tallahassee he served as a political reporter, All Things Considered Host, and Host/Producer of the call-in show Perspectives.
A native Rhode Islander, Mark grew up in the City by the Sea, Newport, where he studied the saxophone and played gigs around the region.
He then headed south to Florida State University to study music … but somehow ended up with a BA in History instead.
After a brief stint teaching music Mark escaped to graduate studies at Emerson College in Boston where he earned a Masters in Broadcast Journalism.
Mark got his start in broadcasting at WERS 88.9FM. He was a news anchor, show host for the Jazz Oasis, and the Director of Jazz Programming. Mark also worked as an Associate Producer at WMUR TV in Manchester NH, before scrambling back to the sun in Tallytown to work for Public Radio.
In Florida he’s covered Presidential candidates, pythons in the Everglades and hurricanes galore. His reporting and hosting has earned a number of national and regional awards.
