As a general assignment reporter for WMFE, Carmel covers the news that affects the greater Central Florida Region, from budgets, to tourism and everything in between.
She grew up in Deltona, Florida, before leaving to Tampa and New York City to complete her college and graduate school education in journalism.
Carmel was formerly based in Cairo, Egypt, working as a freelance journalist and managing a training program for young Egyptian citizen journalists after the 2011 revolution.
In 2012 Carmel was the co-recipient of the 2012 Robert F. Kennedy Europe Journalism Award in the School of Journalism category for a website featuring interviews with leading Egyptian politicians, activists and civilians on what they believe will be the future of women in post-revolution Egypt.
Though much of her focus has been on international news, Carmel believes all news is local to someone, and she strives to live up to her responsibility as a fair and unbiased reporter.
