The Falcon 9 rocket carrying satellites for the communications company Orbcomm blasted off in a mission that had been delayed several times since May.
A short time later Orbcomm said all six of the satellites were successfully in orbit.
In the next few years Space X may shift its commercial launch operations out of Florida. The California based company is looking to develop an exclusive launch complex in Brownsville, Texas.
This month the proposed launch complex passed a key FAA environmental review.
Florida’s economic development agency for space, Space Florida, had hoped Space X would choose a site in Brevard County for the complex.
Space X is also developing a space craft for astronauts as part of NASA’s commercial crew program.
