You want to walk regularly, but you’re just not sure about that nagging knee problem. Well, in Winter Park, you can walk with a doctor and maybe get a couple questions about that knee answered. Orlando resident Sue Plouden found that when she tried to return to exercise after knee surgery, she wasn’t sure what to do.

“When the orthopedic surgeon says resume normal activities, I have a stop button, and I have a go button, I don’t have a ‘go easy’ button, so walking with the doc helped me learn a lot of things I could do to stretch out my legs before I walk and to take some of the stress off the knee,” she says.

Florida Hospital doctor Joanna Wierzbicki says the walks trigger a lot of conversation about general health issues like obesity and cancer prevention, but questions are largely centered around the things that affect a person’s everyday life.

“We have gotten some questions on some common injuries like tennis elbow and basic things,” she says. Walk with a Doc meets every Thursday at 6:00 at the Crosby YMCA in Winter Park.
