WMFE Board of Trustees' Re-elects Chair and Vice Chair
Orlando, Fla. (Dec. 8, 2011) The Board of Trustees for the non-profit public broadcasting station of WMFE re-elected their chair, vice chair and other officers for Board Year 2012 at its December 7, 2011 Board meeting.
Orlando, Fla. (Dec. 8, 2011) – The Board of Trustees for the non-profit public broadcasting station of WMFE re-elected their chair, vice chair and other officers for Board Year 2012 at its December 7, 2011 Board meeting.
Re-elected to serve a one-year term as officers of the board are Chair Bob Showalter, chairman, Showalter Flying Service; Vice Chair Derek J. Blakeslee, shareholder, Sines Blakeslee Madyda, CPAs, PA; Immediate Past Chair David A. Auerbach, MD, MBA, director, newborn services, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women; President & Chief Executive Officer José A. Fajardo and Secretary/Treasurer Sherry Alexander.
Vice Chair Blakeslee reappointed the following trustees as committee chairs: Shirley Decker, EVP, Business Development, IDEAS, to chair the Development Committee; Bud Kirk, founding partner with Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A., to chair the Content and Community Outreach Committee; Derek J. Blakeslee, to chair the Governance Committee in addition to serving as the Board’s Vice Chair; and Julia L. Frey, shareholder/partner, Lowndes Drosdick Doster Kantor & Reed, P.A., to chair the Finance Committee. As committee chairs, they will serve a one-year term on the Board’s Executive Committee. Decker has previously served one year on the Board, Kirk for seven years, Blakeslee for five years and Frey for three years.
Blakeslee also made at-large re-appointments to the Executive Committee. Re-appointed was Peter C. Barr, Jr., president & CEO of Fry/Hammond/Barr and J. Henry Maldonado, President, Enzian/Florida Film Festival. They will serve a one-year term on the Board’s Executive Committee. Barr has previously served for three years and Maldonado for two years.
Retiring board members are Judy Albertson, owner, Albertson-Peterson Art Consultants and Arthur N. Litowitz, DMD, MBA, director, Litowitz Foundation, Inc.
Re-elected for an additional three-year term were Shirley Decker and Markita D. Cooper, professor of law & associate dean for academic affairs, Florida A & M University College of Law.
Re-elected for an additional two-year term were Linda Landman Gonzalez, VP of community relations & government affairs, Orlando Magic; Larry Henrichs, COO/CFO, Visit Orlando; Betty Martinez Lowery, manager, community relations, Walt Disney World; and Robert B. White, Jr., president, White & Luczak, P.A.
Re-elected for a one-year term was Bob Showalter in his role as Board Chair; David A. Auerbach, MD, MBA , in his role as Immediate Past Chair and Bud Kirk in his role as Content & Community Outreach Chair.
Bob Showalter commencing his eight year on the board, is WMFE’s 28th Board Chair since 1971 when WMFE became a community-based institution governed by a lay board of trustees. Showalter is a second- generation fixed base operator and the chairman of Showalter Flying Service, Inc., a business operating on the Orlando Executive Airport since 1945. He is also president of Showalter Aircraft Management, Inc., where he spends much of his energies in helping clients operate their private aircraft. A native of Orlando, Showalter received his Bachelor Degree in Economics from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. and his MBA from the Crummer School of Business and Finance, also at Rollins. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Rollins College for more than 15 years. Showalter and his wife, Kim, have been members of WMFE’s Cornerstone Society since 1997.
