One of the big problems surrounding senior hunger is that assistance programs just aren’t meeting the need. Two programs in Orlando feed 976-seniors five days a week while an estimated 11-hundred more seniors sit on meal assistance waiting lists. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the Senior Hunger Summit is the first step to improving things. “We’ll identify issues and potential solutions and then we’ll go to work,” he said.

The summit was held at Second Harvest Food Bank, and brought together a variety of agencies including the AARP, the Mayor’s Committee on Aging and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
