Central Florida Faith Groups Push Immigration Reform

April 8th, 2013 | WMFE- A coalition of Central Florida faith groups is calling on Florida lawmakers to create a path for citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

Liz Buckley from the Federation of Congregations United to Serve- or Focus – says 650 people attended a weekend prayer service in Orlando to support the issue.

Buckley says she believes there’s strong bipartisan support for immigration reform.

"Senator Rubio plays a key role as a member of the gang of eight, and so we’re just working with all of our legislators and members of congress to make sure they’re hearing from our families," she says.

Buckley says FOCUS is calling for a path to citizenship that would take no longer than 7 years for the estimated 11 million undocumented migrants in the United States.

The faith coalition is planning another rally for next month.

An immigration reform bill from the so-called gang of eight senators -which includes Marco Rubio- could be presented as early as the end of this week.
