Our third annual installment of local holiday concerts will air on 90.7 WMFE’s HD-2 classical station on Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018. The lineup includes performances by Central Florida high schools, colleges and performing arts organizations. See below for more information.

Freedom High School play audio

Freedom High School Advanced Guitar Ensemble’s “Tasto performs “El Noi de la Mare”, arranged by Alan Hirsch. Also the Guitar Orchestra performs “In Dulci Jubilo”, arranged by Andrew Forrest. And, guitar soloist, 11th grader Gabriel Quintero, performs Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”. All were recorded on Dec. 13.

Indian Trails Middle School play audio

Indian Trails’ show choir performed “Sending You a Little Christmas” at their concert on Dec. 4. The soloists at the beginning of the song are Ella Herman and A’Siya (pronounced AH-SIGH-UH) Magazine, both eighth graders.

UCF music professor Ayako Yonetani and her family – son Andrew Sugaya and husband Dr. Kiminobu Sugaya – performed Christmas Song Medley: A Home Concert on Dec. 10. Ayako and Kimi will be giving a fundraising home concert to benefit the new UCF Graduate String Quartet Program on Jan. 26. Their next concert as part of the Polasek Museum concert series is March 10.

The Brass Band of Central Florida presented three performances of their annual Holiday Concert for St Luke’s Concert Series on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo. The Maitland Symphony Orchestra performed Dec. 9 at Maitland Presbyterian Church a musical celebration “From Russia”. The orchestra is made up of volunteers who come together for two hours every Thursday evening to learn and polish the music you’re about to hear. They come from all over Central Florida—not just Maitland—some of them driving great distances to be a part of this amazing orchestra. They range in age from teenagers to septuagenarians, and come from diverse faiths and backgrounds, all with one goal: To play each selection to the best of their ability. Timucua Arts Foundation play audio
