John Morgan says Amendment 2 boosts Charlie Crist

johnmorgan

John Morgan says there's no question Amendment 2 is driving support for Charlie Crist.

The "For-the-People" attorney says the amendment is sending young, first-time voters to the polls who are likely to favor the democratic challenger.

Morgan is leading the campaign for Amendment 2, which would legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes. Crist is an attorney at his firm.

Morgan says 60,000 democratic and independent voters who signed a petition supporting the amendment are unlikely to have engaged in the November elections otherwise.

"Everywhere I go. I took a walk on the beach today. Life guards are flashing me the '2' sign. People are stopping me. 'Yes on 2.' Lots of young people who could care less about the governor's race, they're voting."

Their votes could make a difference in Florida's too-close-to-call gubernatorial race. Democratic challenger Crist faces Republican incumbent Rick Scott.

Morgan says the campaign's polling shows support for Amendment 2 at between 50 and 60 percent, close to what is required for approval.

He says if the amendment fails he'll consider trying again.
