International Speedway Corp. has embarked on a $600 million dollar-plus tune up of its 55 year old Daytona race track and its surrounding area. The goal is to use this upgrade as a possible prototype for similar projects at its 12 other race tracks. The work includes a $400 million dollar modernization of the raceway and the planned One Daytona project, which will provide entertainment, restaurants, a hotel and more. The two projects will create 4,000 permanent jobs.
In other business news, The Orange County Commission approved its part of a $1.83 million dollar incentive package for Maitland based Viewpost to create 262 jobs within three years, paying an average salary of over $80,000 dollars and pumping $21.2 million dollars into the economy. Additionally, the firm will invest $1.9 million dollars into its office. Viewpost plans to hire 82 people at the end of 2014, including marketers, business analysts, security technicians, software developers, infrastructure technicians and a chief information security officer.
