CEMEX is suing Lake County over its denial of a proposed 30-year sand mine project. In a statement the company, which makes cement and other building materials, says it provided evidence to meet application requirements but was denied due process.

David Hill, owner of Southern Hill Blueberries Farm, is worried about how the mine would affect his business. He wishes CEMEX would listen to property owners’ requests.

“To vacate the dig that’s right on our western fence line and there’s another one just across the road southwest of us. We wanted them to back up, just to give us more of a buffer,” said Hill.

Lake County said it won’t comment on active litigation. But officials have said the mine would interfere with plans to develop "Wellness Way," an area with homes and health care businesses.

CEMEX says the project would provide jobs and tax benefits to the county.
